According to research, sex robot’s popularity has immensely increased over the years. In fact, Artificial Intelligence (AI) sex robots are so sought after such that manufacturers are finding it hard to keep up with the demand. Initially, sex dolls were simply inflated rubber pleasure toys with less intimacy associated with them. However, with the research and improvements being effected on these pleasure gods, the future promises more human-like sex robots with unmatched sexual response.
So, what are the ethical implications of sex robots? Well, the idea of having intelligent sex robots that are human-like has been met by both commendation and opposition.
The promoters of the sex robots argue that the sex robots will help counter loneliness in individuals that do not have partners. With a large number facing loneliness mainly due to work commitments and horrible relationship experiences, these intelligent sex dolls will provide an alternative for the lonely population.
Additionally, the promoters argue that the sex robots will reduce prostitution. This is a great perk considering the dangers that prostitution poses to humans. Essentially, with prostitution being one of the most despised things in most societies, if the Artificial Intelligent sex robots will curb it, this will surely be great! Opponents, on the other hand, argue that the sex robots are a part of the rape culture and will ultimately promote exploitation and sex crime.
Looking at the topic from both angles, Stephen Hawking one of the most brilliant minds of our time, admits that “creating effective AI could be the biggest event in the history of our civilization. Or the worst. We just don’t know.” This greatly shows the uncertainty that surrounds the issue and while everyone has their opinion the topic has it’s good and bad.
