Will Men Buy Sex Robots?

Sex Robots do not quite exist yet, but we are very close.  Some estimates say the first sex robots will reach the public market by late-2017.  So sex robots are coming, but will men actually spend their money on them?

The answer to that question is Yes.

In a December 2016 survey of 263 men at the University of Duisburg-Essen in Germany a whopping 40% of men responded that they would “buy such a robot now or within the next five years.” To be clear, by “such robot” they meant android robots that are built to satisfy sexual needs aka a sex robot.

The 40% figure is relatively surprising given the niche nature and societal stigma typically surrounding male sex toys.  It may be an indication that sex robots will transcend that taboo and break into the mainstream.  Men may be able to openly buy and have sex with sex robots without the shame that currently accompanies owning and using something like a sex doll or flesh light.

I would love to see more studies like this conducted that are expanded to include women and a larger sample of males, not just limited to males at one university. Still from just one study, it’s interesting to see how men may already be planning and saving to have their own sex robot in just 5 years time (or less!).

Will you be buying a sex robot?
